The research field Scientific Computing combines aspects of numerical analysis, applied mathematics, informatics, and computational science and engineering. It comprises the transition from a continuous mathematical model to a discrete numerical model by means of a suitable discretisation, and the development of algorithms to solve the discrete equations accurately and efficiently, if necessary on high-performance parallel computers.
