September 2010
- Giacomo Mazzi joined our group. He will be working as a post-doctoral researcher under the supervision of prof. Dirk Roos, on the analysis and the development of numerical methods for multiscale systems, with applications to molecular dynamics and chemical kinetics. His interests range from simulation of quantum systems to reduction techniques for large dynamical systems.
- Bart Verleye joined our group. As a post-doctoral researcher, he will work for the Flanders Exascience Lab. The aim of the research is to develop numerical techniques for the new generation of super computers.
August 2010
- Yaidel Reyes Lopez our research group as a doctoral student under the supervision of prof. Dirk Roose. He will work on particle based methods, more precisely on Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), for multiscale simulations in collaboration with the research group MeBios from the faculty of Bio-engineering.

- Kasra Mohaghegh joined our group.
- Stefan Vandewalle is elected as the new head of the section Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics. His mandate starts August 1.
- Student job vacancy at the Scientific Computing group.

- Kristian Debrabant from the Technical University of Darmstadt joined the Scientific Computing group as a post-doctoral fellow. Kristian is an expert on numerical methods for stochastic differential equations and partial differential algebraic equations. He will work on the OT-project on Computational aspects of uncertainty propagation in large and multiscale systems.

- Andreas Asheim and Alfredo Deaño are visiting our group. During their research stay of one month, they will collaborate with Daan Huybrechs.
October 2009
- Stefan Vandewalle presented a key-note lecture at the 8th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Application to Business, Engineering and Sciences (DCABES 2009). The conference was held from October 16 to 19, 2009 in Wuhan, China. The title of the lecture was "Parallel Time-Domain Methods".
- Dirk Abbeloos and Yves Frederix have won the first and second best poster award at the 34th Woudschoten Conference on Scientific Computing, an annual meeting of the Flemish and Dutch numerical analysis communities. The three-day conference took place in Woudschoten (Zeist) in The Netherlands, from 7 to 9 October 2009. Dirk's poster was about "Multigrid methods for the control of time-periodic parabolic partial differential equations". The title of the poster by Yves was "Multiscale solution of coarse Fokker-Planck equations".

- On May 28th, Daan Huybrechs received the New Talent Award during a prize ceremony at the International Conference on Scientific Computation and Differential Equations (SciCADE2009) in Beijing, China.

- Kris Demarsin left our group.
- Koen Delaere joined our group. He will be working as a post-doctoral researcher with Stefan Vandewalle.
March 2009
- Daan Huybrechs, post-doctoral research fellow of the FWO-Flanders, has been awarded a 2009 David Crighton Fellowship. The David Crighton Fund was set up in memory of the late Professor David Crighton, Fellow of the Royal Society, to provide support for young scholars in his research field, i.e. the subfield of applied mathematics concerned with fluid mechanics, acoustics, waves, and vibration. The award covers all expenses for a three-month research stay at the University of Cambridge. During this research stay Daan will collaborate with Professor Arieh Iserles of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on the topic of oscillatory integration and integral equations.
- Giovanni Samaey will be on leave at CESAME (U.C. Louvain) from April 2009 until June 2010, working with Vincent Legat on multiscale methods for polymer flow.
February 2009
- Hendrik Speleers has been awarded a fellowship by the Research Foundation Flanders to stay for 10 months at the Center for Constructive Approximation, Vanderbilt University. From September 2009 until June 2010, he will collaborate with prof. Larry Schumaker on the topic of shape preserving approximation.
- Venkata Rama Rao Mallela left our group. He has taken up his position again as associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering in the Vasavi College of Engineering, Hyderabad, India.

- Jerzy Gawad joined our group. He will be working as a post-doctoral research with Dirk Roose.
- Elias Jarlebring and Suat Gumussoy joined our group. They will be working as post-doctoral researchers with Wim Michiels.
December 2008
- Dries Kimpe has left our group, after having finished his PhD "On the scalable parallelization of unstructured mesh applications". He currently works as HPC System Researcher at the Mathematics and Computer Science Division of the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, U.S.A. His research focuses on the development of system-level software tools and services for computational science problems on petascale systems.
